However, there are many times when women see symptoms, such as swelling in the abdominal area, which motivates them to see a doctor. Many times, symptoms are mistaken for something less serious, but if a woman even has the slightest idea that she may have cancer of the ovaries, she should see a doctor immediately.
If a woman has ovarian cancer in her family’s history, she should go get tested for cancer or ovarian cysts immediately, especially if she has other symptoms of ovarian cancer. Sometimes, however, screenings are not 100 percent accurate, so a misdiagnosis could potentially occur. But if a woman is diagnosed correctly, it could very well be the tool that saves her life.
A factor determining the ovarian cancer survival rate is which stage the woman is in currently. There are different stages of cancer when it concerns the ovaries, and the higher the stage, the lower the survival rate. This is why it is so important to diagnose it early, because the earlier it is diagnosed and you get treatment, the higher the survival rate gets. For example, the stage 3 survival rate is much different than the stage 1 survival rate, so as soon as a woman is diagnosed, she should seek treatment immediately.

Another factor that determines the survival rate is age. The older a woman is, the less her body is able to fight off the cancer as well as a younger woman. This is yet another reason why women need to be tested and treated early if they are at risk or have been diagnosed.
